We are sitting on the sofa at home at the moment discussing our holiday plans for the year and I got a song in my head that I started humming. Remembering the adverts on TV where you hold your phone up to a speaker and it tells you the song, I thought there must be one that you can hum to and it’ll find the song. So I did a quick google and found Midomi, I hummed the song (and I can’t really sing or even hum very well) and sure enough…it found the exact song, 2 results came back and it was the second! We’re both amazed by how well it worked.

So if you get a song stuck in your head and you can hum it, even if you’re quite bad at humming, give this website a go, chances are you’ll be amazed.

Incidentally, the song it found (which was even more impressive) was Kaoma – Lambada, which I’ve included below.

I’ve not watched much Celebrity Big Brother this time around, as usual it’s become extremely over the top and feels almost scripted (as in the housemates, obviously BB has a script!) One thing they have done this time around though is actually get a couple of people who can actually be classed as celebrities. I know, I know, they’re not switch on the TV and they’ll be on a TV show or film right now, but they’re people who’s names you recognise, I think most notably (until this weekend) was Basshunter, even people who find his music terrible know the name.

Then of course there is Sisqo, I’m sure a lot of people know him (Thong Song.)

Now, they have Ivana Trump in there. A name I’m sure most people have heard, even if they’re not sure where. For those of you wondering, think about Donald Trump, that’s a name that should help you trigger a memory.

For those of you who hate Big Brother, continue to avoid it. For those of you who used to like it but have wained, I’d consider checking a few episodes out of CBB this year, it’s nowhere near as good as those first 2 years, but it’s probably their best one since (although it could still go all down hill.)

NASA uploaded an image today of Great Britain from space as of 11:50 UTC today, it’s a truly remarkable picture showing just how much it has snowed here. For anyone not from the UK, snow like this has not hit Britain for over 30 years, hence all the hoo-haa about. It looks beautiful though, although weirdly sci-fi in nature. I must admit, as cold as I am on my way to work on the morning, I still love the fact everything is white, and it’s that perfect powder snow too, if I lived near mountains, it would be great for snowboarding!

It’s Christmas Eve, so here are some festive lolcatz to tide you over the next few days.

Oh this is just adorable, reminds me of when our cat was just a baby.

Yesterday, we went to Leeds to do some shopping in preparation of our upcoming big day (yes, getting married soon!) At lunch time we decided to go get some food and a drink, we wanted to go to Starbucks but both the Border’s Starbucks and the actual Starbucks shop on the street were packed (20+ queues.) So we decided on Costa Coffee, 93-97 Albion Street (near Harvey Nichols) for our mid-day drink and snack…I wish we had queued for Starbucks.

It got to my time to order, so I ordered us a Gingerbread Latte, Hazelnut (or some nut) Latte, 2 mince tarts and 2 panini’s that needed heating up. The woman on the counter put the order in the till, took payment and then…no drinks…no one told the guy doing the drinks for about 5 minutes, so while other people got served, I was just standing there. Eventually they realised he needed to make the drinks and so they begun.

That day, their dishwasher was broke as well, so all orders came in their cardboard cups, this was out of their control in all fairness, but it would have been nice to see someone there working on it, it was busy, something like a cup is pretty important at a coffee shop, especially when the customer level is going up.

Someone who placed their order while I was stood waiting asked for a slight alteration to the standard drink (missed the actual item ordered, but caught the part where he said “but can you…” – two women responded saying, we’re awfully busy so we can’t do that for you now because (and I quote) “if we do that for you, everyone will want it” – a line I have a personal grievance about – it also shows a lack of any care for customers.

Then another conversation unfolded, I missed the start of it, but the ending was superb (note, the manager was working on the floor too):
Manager: “This is the first time this has happened, sorry.”
Customer: “Well that’s not true, I was in here a few days ago and got the same excuse, so it’s certainly not the first time.”
Manager: “Well it’s not happened while I’ve been here, I’m the new manager.”
I found this particularly offensive to a customer – just lie to their face why don’t you?

Finally, and this is what made me want to post this. The toilets…oh my god. For a start, there is one toilet for both males and females. A small room that has the toilet and the sink – so if you’re done with the toilet, you can’t let someone else use it while you wash your hands. That’s nothing though, compared to the urine all over the floor, the used tissue on the floor and, best of all, the toilet brush on the floor covered in shit, yes, shit. It was truly disgusting in there, yes it’s a toilet used by customers so it’s going to get messy every now and then, but leaving urine on the floor and a shit covered toilet brush is beyond acceptable. Incidentally, the coffees looked like regular coffee’s, no extra finishing touches or anything, very bland.

I love the Muppets, always have, always will. So I was delighted to find this on Youtube. It’s Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody re-imagined by the muppets. Not sure if it’s actually new, but the 1080p quality certainly is new and it is pretty stunning to watch it stream.

What can only be described as a human function, this thermal image at first glance looks like something from space, captured by a telescope….then you realise it’s just a man’s butt while farting and your world comes crumbling down.

It’s getting close to Christmas 2009 and once again it looks like X-Factor is going to be the christmas number one, regardless of what else comes up. I’m not sure about you but I feel it’s time for a traditional christmas song again, no more random song for christmas, it’s time for a real christmas song, and while there are plenty of options, I feel Santa Claus is Coming to Town by Bruce Springsteen has real potential, it embodies all that christmas has to offer. It’s certainly “christmasy” (Santa Claus, come on!) and it’s a happy song, it just embodies the feeling of christmas superbly.

So many people now just go out and get the latest number one at christmas, regardless of the context of the song. Children now have no idea of the true christmas feeling, the family gathering today to listen to a christmas album that actually has songs about christmas rather than being a depressing song about bleeding love.

It’s almost christmas which means soon enough will be time to start buying your CD’s or your MP3’s, so I urge you, don’t waste your money on the X-Factor song (just turn the radio on any hour on any station, you’ll get it for free pretty much any time you like!), spend money on something that embodies the true spirit of christmas, buy Santa Claus Is Coming To Town by Bruce Springsteen.
