“The pads on ants’ feet are self-cleaning and can stick to almost any type of surface,” he said.

“No man-made glue or adhesive system can match this. Understanding how animals can control their adhesive systems should help us come up with clever adhesives in the future.”

Lord Mandelson said it would be a “truly historic occasion” which would allow the British people to show their “pride and affection” for The Queen. I’ll be honest, I won’t be showing my pride and affection for the Queen, I’ll be enjoying the day off work, quite possibly in a pub. I’ll join in any cheer for the Queen should it so happen.

As always though, we can’t just get an extra holiday without a bit of controversy: Republic, which supports an elected head of state in the UK, said 2012 should see a “meaningful debate” on the future of the monarchy and proposals for “serious reform”.

If we want an extra public holiday, aren’t there better dates to choose from?

Armistice Day would be a good start, recognising those ordinary men and women who make real sacrifices for our country.

The Transportation Security Administration said in a statement the new rules apply to flyers coming from or via countries on the US state department’s state sponsors of terrorism list. However, any passenger from any country could now be checked at random as well, so it’s entirely possible to be checked when flying directly from the UK.

I’m so tired with all of this now, the ridiculous security that never seems to work well, the constant wars that it seems we must be involved in (thanks America), the endless violence…it just seems to be getting worse with every passing month. What with the admittance made by MP’s here now that they new, along with the states, that the whole Iraq war was really about regime change, it just shows how ignorant and self righteous the West has become.

The UK prime minister Gordon Brown has said in a interview with gay lifestyle magazine, Attitude, that he is focused on making sure the rights of British civil partnerships are recognised across the EU, including Eastern Europe, believing “respect for gay people was due”.

Saying that agreements with both France and Spain are already in negotiations, Brown pointed to the proposed roll backs of civil partnerships in the USA as inspiration saying these “…are people who have made a commitment to each other and clearly loved each other, who are now to be faced with this idea that it was going to be rescinded. It’s totally unacceptable”, and how he was not willing to see couples who had had civil partnerships in the UK lose their rights when living across Europe.

While at the same time, a congressman is actively fighting against LGBT rights even though his dad was an LGBT activist:

The son of the man who wrote a book that acted to promote tolerance of the LGBT community, and show gay couples can be as stable, loyal and devoted as any heterosexual couples, is trying his darned hardest to do the exact opposite.

When I was younger I wanted to live in the states, that dream has died more and more over the years and now, it’s the last place I’d want to live. The “free” country is a distant dream, as the world moves forward, America is left behind.

As I said, this is not the first campaign the couple (Morters) have launched to try to influence the charts – last year they attempted to get Rick Astley to the top spot.

Mr Morter, 35, said he learnt “how the charts work” from that experience, and “what you can get away with”.

“When this year came around I just thought, let’s have another go. If anything, last year was fun. This year it has gone stratospheric.”

His wife Tracy said: “It was one of those little silly ideas that make you laugh in your own house.

“We really love music and remember when were were young the charts were really exciting. We just thought, wouldn’t it be funny if that song got to number one?

“It took something really strong and forceful to get people behind it.”

I think it’s great we’ve got a non X-Factor number one this year, but I just wish its replacement was a bit more festive and a bit less…violent?

A Christmas card has been withdrawn from two Tesco stores in York after complaints that it makes fun of children with ginger hair.

The card shows a child with ginger hair sitting on the lap of Santa Claus, and the words: “Santa loves all kids. Even ginger ones.”

Davinia Phillips, 30, of York, whose three daughters are redheads, said she found the card offensive.

This is ridiculous, it’s called humour, apparently this is yet another stupid woman who has a lack of one. Does she not watch any late night comedy? Everyone is fair game as the target of a joke and it’s funny! In fact I’d go as far as to say it’s even funnier now to make fun of people than it ever has been because of the P.C. world in which we live. Now, when someone makes an offensive joke, people not only laugh at the joke, but laugh at the risk of it as well – the comedian nearly always is safe too. But it is people like this mother who should be removed from the country, permanently. Why? Because anyone who takes PC too far is no better to me than people who are racist, sexist, etc. They’re just the opposite end of the spectrum, neither ends are good.
